How to Stave Off the Winter Blues: A Recipe

I just listened to NPR’s Life Kit episode about changing your mindset to love winter, and as an avid winter-hater, it was a healthy reminder for me. So, here are some tips for all of you who also struggle with these short cold days.

1. Turn the Big Light Off

I follow this rule regardless of the season, but I find it especially important during the winter months - cozy warm lights and candles are a must! Bonus if you have a fireplace. It is an immediate way to create a cozy space.

The IKEA donut light is a current favorite of mine.

2. Bring the Warmth In

Switch out your cold brew for hot, sip on tea all day, drink the viral bone broth hot chocolate, make your favorite soups and get into baking. Rearrange your home to create cozy nooks for reading, lay out rugs and have your slippers ready to keep your feet warm at all times.

3. No Such Thing as Bad Weather

Just the wrong clothes. Layer up and get outside! A brisk walk outside feels extra rewarding when you get to return to a warm home, and movement is key for our mental health.
