Handwoven vintage Persian rug
Handwoven wool low pile Persian rug. Measures 6’8”x4’5” . Features one central medallion and and thick border. Shows some geometric, floral, figural, and boteh motifs. This rug has a field of soft muted terracotta with hints of bright pink and indigo. The rug is in good vintage condition.
The use of floral motifs in Persian rugs dates back centuries, influenced by Persian gardens and the Islamic emphasis on the beauty of nature. Flowers in Persian rugs often symbolize paradise, beauty, and eternal life. This is rooted in Persian poetry and literature, where gardens are depicted as heavenly places.
The boteh motif is often interpreted as a symbol of life, fertility, and eternity. Its shape is thought to resemble a combination of a floral spray and a cypress tree, both of which have strong symbolic meanings in Persian culture.
