Handwoven vintage Persian rug

Handwoven wool low pile Persian rug. Measures 6’10”x4’4”. Features four central medallions on an abrash field of lavender. The medallions are tribal evil eye motits there are diamond motifs woven throughout with pops of blues, sage, chartreuse, and yellow. The rug is in good vintage condition. Please note that some photos were taken outside in dappled light.

Abrash in the context of rugs refers to the variations or changes in color that occur within a single rug. This term is commonly associated with handmade and vintage rugs, particularly those that are woven with natural dyes. These color changes are often the result of the natural dyeing process. Natural dyes can produce slight differences in color, even within the same dye lot, due to factors like water quality, dye concentration, and the absorption properties of the wool. Abrash is a hallmark of handmade rugs. Because handweavers work with small batches of dyed wool, slight differences in color are almost inevitable.
